We built on an acreage outside of Lacombe. From first call to delivery was six months. The quality of the timber is outstanding — this home will outlast all of us.

EcoLog's team knew Alberta code inside and out. No surprises at inspection. The whole process was smoother than building a conventional home — and far more beautiful.

Simple to build.
Built to last.

Every EcoLog kit starts with hand-selected Eastern Hemlock from our FSC-certified forest. Each timber is cut by hand with a chainsaw — leaving the characteristic saw marks that give EcoLog homes their unmistakable rustic character. The walls are 11 rows of solid 8"×8" square timbers with rigid foam insulation and chinking between each course, producing 9-foot main floor walls engineered for Canadian winters.

Once your floor plan is agreed, a professional designer produces full construction drawings — from foundation to roof peak. Your kit then arrives in Alberta pre-cut and numbered, ready for any qualified local contractor to assemble. No specialist log builder required.

Do you deliver log home kits to Alberta?

Yes — we supply kits to customers across Canada, including Alberta. Because our construction plans are prepared by an Ontario-licensed designer and engineer, your Alberta build may require a review by a local engineer before a building permit is issued. We recommend checking with your municipal building department for their specific requirements. Delivery is priced by time and distance, and we can assist with arranging shipping to your lot.

Are EcoLog homes built for Alberta's climate — including cold winters?

Our log home kits are designed for year-round residential use in Canadian conditions. The solid 8"×8" hemlock wall system, combined with a layer of closed-cell foam between logs, delivers an effective R-value of around R-13 — equivalent in real-world heating and cooling costs to a conventional 2×6 frame structure. The thermal mass of solid log walls stores heat and releases it gradually, keeping homes warm in Alberta winters and cool in summer.

What exactly is included in an EcoLog kit?

Each kit covers the shell of the building and includes: pre-cut logs for the walls, heavy timber roof trusses, roof sheathing boards, hemlock beams as specified by the engineer, wall insulation, chinking, and full construction drawings with an engineer's review and stamp. Windows, doors, roofing, and interior finishes are completed by you or your local Alberta contractor — giving you flexibility over budget and finish level.

Can any contractor in Alberta assemble the kit?

Yes. Our kits are precision pre-cut and numbered, so any qualified general contractor can assemble them — no specialist log builder required. We provide detailed construction drawings and are available throughout the build to answer questions. This means you can work with a trusted local contractor in Calgary, Edmonton, or wherever your lot is located.

How long does it take from deposit to kit delivery?

Custom kit designs take at least three months, often longer due to the design process. Our pre-selected floor plans can be produced within a month. We confirm the exact timeline with every customer before accepting a deposit, so there are no surprises. We will always discuss a realistic shipping schedule to your Alberta location upfront.

Is the timber sustainably sourced?

EcoLog Homes is a division of Haliburton Forest & Wildlife Reserve Ltd. — a 100,000-acre privately managed forest that was the first in Canada to be certified sustainable by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). We are committed to responsible forest management and source our hemlock from well-managed Canadian forests. Buying an EcoLog kit directly supports sustainable forestry in Canada.
